The designed objects are seen as "garden furniture".  They are primarily made from found and recycled hardwood.  Some sections are "green" hardwood often giving the designer some excruciating moments of pain as the work twists, splits, cups and "groans" as it slowly dries.  The hardwood sections used are the cheapest, nastiest sections, with knots, gum veins, dings, splits and the grain often going in opposite directions on the same piece!  They are usually twisted and cupped and, that is why they are used for pallets, or thrown away at the tip.  To me, these bits have the most character!

Each piece is derived from the measurement of a batten from the blue "Chep" rented pallets one often sees discarded or lying around.  Hence, the light blue "highlights" pays homage to this utilitarian piece of design.
However, to me, each stick of timber can tell a story.  I love the hardwood gum veins, the knots, and will often put the "worst bits” in the foremost locations of the piece, emphasizing its texture and beauty.
All the pieces are minimal.  Each element is deliberately pulled apart, emphasized and celebrated to create an object of "pure function".
