south coast fishing boats 2023
These pieces are "one-offs" and not reproduced. They are pick-up only, as they are too fragile to ship.
Fishing boats are essentially forms of functional necessity. They do what they have to do, and nothing else. These vessels elements are deconstructed, pared back and then recomposed to emphasise their essential form and texture.
south coast purse seiner AUD $1350
recycled hardwood, oxidised copper, acrylic paint
310 x 275 x 6200mm 3.0kg
The boat draws the fishing net into a circle around a school of fish. The bottom of the net is pulled tight, like a purse trapping them inside.
south coast trawler AUD $1350
recycled hardwood, oxidised copper, acrylic paint
525 x 150 x 620mm 2.7kg
The boat pulls a net, closed at one end through the water, capturing any fish that pass in front of it. The open end of the net is kept apart by a large board on either side called an “otter-board.” The boards were angled to flare apart by the pressure of the water.
south coast longliner AUD $1350
recycled hardwood, oxidised copper, acrylic paint
